Hi
I was just wondering if that rumor about chinese people using rats/mice/cats and cooking it and calling it chicken was really true.
Just wondering...
It's kinda gross...

i don't know if it is exactly true, but there was a chinese restaurant in my area where I grew up, when i was younger, that got closed down because the health inspectors found a bunch of cat cages in their basement. it is unknown what the cages were used for but there was a lot apparently, enough to suspect foul play and they closed down for good. i remember eating a burger from there when i was little and it was the nastiest thing i ever ate in my life. i don't know what kind of meat it was, but it could have been cat. my parents thought i was nutz anyways for ordering a burger at a chinese place anyways....that is why they thought it tasted bad, but after reading why they were closed, it could have been cat! ewwww

Just an urban legend!

Even in China, the price of chicken is comparatively cheap and there are hundreds or thousands of farms rearing chicken. It's easy to get from any supplier.

Have you ever read or heard of any farms rearing cats to be used as food? How much would it cost to rear cats and is it worth it as a business?

The next problem is how many Chinese eat cat meat or like it. Even among Chinese, domestic cats are not considered as food. Yes, they do eat game animals like civet cats or even tigers. But there's for their supposed medicinal value rather than for taste.

Of course, calling one kind of meat as another has existed since people started selling food.

In China they do eat cats and dogs, and just about everything else with four legs, except the table. If they can skin a snake alive at your table to consume, they can do anything. In this bird influenza outbreak, some people caught it from birds having their blood drained for "blood soup", a Chinese delicacy.

In the UK; one local restaurant was fined for serving pigeon in place of chicken. The owners had set traps for the pigeons on the roof of the restaurant, and the food inspector found the bodies in the restaurant's kitchen fridge ready for cooking.

Obviously Chinese people will carry their traditional eating habits to whatever country they move to, but laws may prevent them from forcing the unsuspecting restaurant customers to eat meat they would not usually consume from choice. Hopefully.............!

You know how chicken tastes, even the meat fiber and texture is very obvious. The truth is, its made out of dinosaurs and dragons.

NO, it's just a myth. If it was true, I'd be allergic to it.
