You drop the dumplings onto the chicken (and vegetables if you include them in your recipe), not in the boiling or simmering liquid. Dumplings are supposed to steam not stew. Cook, covered for ten to twelve minutes. You shouldn't need to "seal" them.

How are you making your dumplings? I make the best (yes, by far, the *best*) chicken & dumplings in the Free World (and elsewhere). I use Bisquick, but the exact recipe is a secret. Bring your stuff to a boil, turn it down & add dumplings, then simmer about ten minutes.

Buy a box of bisquick baking mix, mix 2 cups bisquick with 2/3 cup milk and stir till combined. Drop by tablespoons into simmering chicken and broth, cover pan and cook for 10 minutes. Uncover pan and cook another 10 minutes.

Bisquick is fool proof.

You need to use egg wash to seal the opening of the dumplings. Plus, boiling the dumplings too long will make the dumpling fall apart.

go get Pillsbury biscuits and divide into 4's and roll into balls....bring your liquid to a simmer not to a boil and let them float until they get dense then you done no problem...have a great day :)
